As educators prepare for the transition back into the classroom, certain re-entry strategies need to be addressed (e.g., opportunity and achievement gaps). This presentation will help educators plan for a blended learning approach to instruction that builds upon the expertise gained through distance learning and supports educators moving forward supporting students with 21st century skills.

Designing an Effective Online/Blended Classroom and Engaging Lessons for History Social Science
Do you want to design an effective online/blended classroom and engaging lessons? We will work through the Understanding by Design model to take your choice of grade level standards and objectives to begin the online lesson plan process. This is a hands on module-participants will create relevant materials for their own classroom.
Learning Target: To understand the principles of National Quality Online Learning and Key Considerations for Online Lessons.
Success Criteria: Backwards design for a particular objective/standard that is applicable for grade level. Teachers will use NSQOL standards to complete reflective practices and complete all three stages of UBD (Understanding by Design).
Building Lesson Plans that Focus on Student Learning, Engagement, and Building Community in History Social Science
Do you want to add to your teacher toolkit? In this hands-on module, participants will add lesson design "tools" such as OREO and 5 E's to their teaching toolbelt; then use those tools to start building out lesson plans that focus on student learning, engagement and building community.
Learning Target: To examine the principles online instructional design and learner engagement through interaction with the National Standards for Quality Online Learning.
Success Criteria: Backwards design for a particular objective/standard that is applicable for grade level. Participants will use OREO and 5 E's Models to create a Choiceboard/HyperDoc for student use.

The “paradox of choice” leaves many educators too overwhelmed to integrate edtech tools into their instruction. However, in an era when utilizing technology to enhance learning and deepen connections with students is paramount, selecting and integrating tools is essential. In this session, Jake will share about how 4 edtech tools (Flipgrid, Screencastify/Loom, EdPuzzle, and Pear Deck/Nearpod) can work with the “Educational Duct Tape” mindset to can help educators overcome this paralysis.
