History Day

History Day 2023

Every other year, the Inyo County Office of Education offers coordination of a History Day contest where students enter projects to compete locally, and from that competition, students can advance to the state competition.

What is History Day?
History Day is an educational program that encourages students to engage and explore the past in a creative, hands on way. The program requires students to practice critical thinking, extensively research and analyze a topic, and showcase their understanding through a project presentation of their choice. In the words of a previous student participant, "It's a life changing experience."

Why history day?
The benefits of participating is unique to the individual. Watch the short video "About NHD" for a quick look into the program and motivating testimonies.

2023 Theme

Every year, a theme is released to guide student research. The theme is broad enough to allow choice in selecting a topic that is most interesting to each individual student, while still examining history in a challenging way and producing an informative project.

This year's theme is Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas

View the Theme Video, or click on the Theme Narrative for an overview and potential ideas that may spark some interest.
